Common Names: Lemon, Lemon Tree

Description:  Citrus x limon (Lemon Tree) is a member of the Rue or Citrus Family (Rutaceae). The Hortus Kewensis, ed. 2, vol. 4, pp. 419- 420 recorded that this plant was native to Asia.  Because it is not native to the island of Mauritius depicted on the illustrations on the subject toiles, the cultivated (hybrid?) variety must have been pictured.
