Common Names:  Garden Peony, Common Garden Peony, Peony, Chinese Peony, Esculent Peony, White Peony (the wild type is white), White-flowered Paeonia

Description: Paeonia lactiflora (Garden Peony) is a member of the Peony Family (Paeoniaceae).  The Hortus Kewensis, ed. 2, vol. 3 recorded that this native of Siberia was introduced into cultivation in Britain in 1784.
